(From Burk)
Translated by Joel R. Meador

The nightingale sang so beautifully
There in the big Spruce bush.
Who was listening to the nightingale?
A handsome lad was listening to it.

“The whole world was already at rest and asleep,
But I crept around to the wall.
But I crept around to the wall,
And I noticed there a lovely girl.”

“She was the prettiest of all the girls,
But the prettiest is only one,
All the girls were decked in wreaths,
But only she wore no wreath.”

“Sad, oh sad, on dear God!
What has the girl done then?
Counts and princes I could woo,
The shopkeeper has now taken mine.”

“Be quiet and don’t cry, young lady!
The shopkeeper also has money for you.
He can buy a castle or a house,
He can buy a new dwelling for you.”

No known music.
