(From Elisabeth Deschan of Burk)
Translated by H. Melvin Symmank

Gentleman drove to guests, thereby
Was a little girl lost,
A teamster drove by there,
Saw the little girl there.

As she sat on the white sand,
Played with a little red apple,
Having brought it in the tavern,
Drunk with beer and wine.

A knight came riding there,
Wanting to stay there at night,
One came out before the other,
Asked the land lady.

Land lady, dear Landlady,
Is that your little daughter?
Is that your only daughter,
Or only the servant maid?

That is not my only daughter,
Nor is she a servant maid,
Teamsters have brought here to me,
Drunk with beer and wine.

Land lady, dear landlady,
Let me sleep with here.
I give my permission to it,
If the girl also agrees.

Landlady made the bed ready,
The lad held the light for her,
The landlady finished making the bed,
The lad extinguished the light.

She slept quietly until midnight,
She chattered after midnight;
The knight began to ask her:
Where are you from, Annette?

I am the youngest little daughter
Of the Wittenburger lord;
You are the youngest little daughter,
I am the oldest son.

I have searched for you thirteen years,
I rode fourteen horses to death;
But now I have found you,
Youngest little sister of mine.

It now became morning, the day broke,
The landlady called the maid:
Get up now, now get up, you bride,
Hostess so young and fine.

A bride that I am not,
Not a hostess young and fine,
Were it not for my oldest brother,
I would have lost the crown.

If that is your oldest brother,
Where then are your father and mother?
Father I have there on the ring,
Mother I have there also.

Truly came traveling on the ring,
Remained standing there before the court:
Opened the new door now for me,
Bring to you a beautiful youth.

Bring to you a beautiful youth,
A hostess myself.
Yes need no beautiful youth,
Also not a hostess.

Opened the new door for me
Bring to you a beautiful youth,
Yet no hostess is myself
Only my youngest little sister.

The mother spread the footpath,
Spread green silk on it.
Never the footpath with silk was strewn,
I am already used to the dirt.

Now take off the farm shoes,
Put on the city shoes,
Now take off the farmer's dress,
Put on the city dress.
