Sayings 1-184 are from Upper Lusatia, 185-199 are from Lower Lusatia. Most of the Upper Lusatian ones were recorded by Schmaler as he heard them from
the mouth of the people, for some we thank Pastor Seiler from Lohsa and Mr. Pfuhl from Preischwitz, others were offered to us by the “Serbska nowina”
of the Upper Lusatian clergy society in Leipzig. Among those from Lower Lusatia some were shared by Mr. Komer, others taken from Hauptmann’s Lower
Lusatian Grammar, and more heard and written down by Schmaler. [Anything in English was translated from the German by Ray F. Martens.]
