Where did The Reform land in 1853?

Do you know how Matthijetz became Mattiza?

The Reform ran aground off Cuba on Oct. 25, 1853. All passengers survived and eventually arrived in Galveston about mid November, 1853.

Matthijetz and Mattiza are two distinct family names. Matthijetz did not evolve to Mattiza.
