A. 294. The Rose of Sharon

(From Lohsa)
Translated by Ed Bernthal

Be praised, beautiful flower
There on the hill of Zion,
All the godly will come to you,
You truly are the rose of Sharon.
You are heavenly sunshine,
Shine your light on me.

Now I have come to you,
O you compassionate heart!
My eyes are full of tears
And my mouth sighs with pain.
When the mouth cannot speak,
Take on, O Lord, my sighing.

I would tarry in the garden,
Where my loved one hides himself;
There I seek you with grieving,
Wherever I may find you.
Among the beautiful flowers
My sweetheart may be found.

My soul’s friend and loved one,
White and red is Jesus Christ,
Who among the millions
Can redeem in love.
Sharon’s rose, you Lord Christ,
You are the white lilly.

Now I will give myself
To Jesus, our Lord,
He will look kindly on me,
And gladly help me in my need.
Soul, up to heavenly glory!
World, farewell! Good night now.
