In the Name of the Holy, Highly Praised Trinity, God the Father, The Son and the Holy Ghost. Amen

First, the one who from Dauben in Prussia on May 23, 1854 was issued a temporary call, our present Pastor Johann Kilian;

Secondly, due to the existing disunity in the congregation, it became necessary for Pastor Kilian, on May 22 of this year, to resign his office; and

Thirdly, one part of the congregation has now called a different pastor;

So, with sincere prayer to God, we have decided to issue a renewed call to Pastor J. Kilian, and to present to him this present.



By this, we herewith declare before God and his Holy Church, on this day, that the named Pastor Johann Kilian is called, and is to be recognized as the Pastor and Spiritual Leader of the Wendish German Evangelical Lutheran Church in Serbin, Bastrop County, Texas.

We instruct herewith, by the authority that the Lord gave to his Church, the named Pastor Johann Kilian, according to this call: To accept and teach, in all its purity, the Canonical Books contained in the Old and New Testament, according to the explanation of the same in the public Confessional Writings of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the three Creeds, the Apostles, the Nicean, and the Athanasian, in the Unaltered Augsburg Confession, in the Apology, in the Smalcald Articles, in Luther’s Small and Large Catechisms, and in the Saxon Visitation Articles; To proclaim the same in public and private; To administer the Holy Sacraments according to Christ’s institution; To visit and instruct and comfort with God’s Word the disturbed, the sick and the dying and provide the Holy Sacraments according to the circumstances that require help for them; To prepare the youth for their first reception of Holy Communion; To make use of church discipline according to God’s command; To see to it that good churchly policies and practices are functioning; To lead the congregation by example, and especially, do all in his power, by the grace of God and in the limits of his call, that is for the welfare of the congregation, and for serving the same in holy unity.

On our part, we obligate ourselves to our elected spiritual leader: To provide for him the necessary living expenses, through his salary, appropriate gifts, and freewill offerings to the best of our ability; To, above all, regard and honor him as a servant of Jesus Christ, and too give him the love and obedience which, as such, we owe him.

Im namen der heiligen hochgelobten Dreieinigkeit Gottes des Vaters, Des Sohnes und des Heiligen Geistes. Amen.

Da erstens der von uns zu Dauben im Preusen am 23ten Mai, 1854 unseren bisherigen Herrn Pastor Johann Kilian ausgestellte Beruf auf ein einsweiligen war.

zweitens, entstandenen Uneinigkeit der Gemeinde den Herrn Pastor Kilian nöthigt sein Amt am 22ten Mai dieses Jahres zu künigen, und

drittens, ein Theil der Gemeinde nun einen andern Prediger beruft.

So haben wir unter herzlichen Anrufung Gottes beschlossen dem Herrn Pastor J. Kilian einen erneuerten Beruf angestellen und diese gegenwärtige

Ihn zu überreichen.
Durch dieselbe bezeigen wir vor Gott und seiner heiligen Kirche hiermit feierlich das genannten Herr Pastor Johann Kilian von uns am heutigen Tage als Pastor und Seelsorger der wendische deutschen evangelische lutherische Gemeinde in Serbin Bastrop County Texas verordnet und annerkannt ist.

Wir entheilen damit, vörmöge der Gewalt, welche der Herr seiner Kirche gegeben hat, dem genannten Herrn Pastor Johann Kilian dem Auftrag, diesem Beruf gemäs, das Wort Gottes, wie es in den cannonischen Bücher des alten und neuen Testaments enthalten ist, nach dem Verstand wie daselbe in den öffentlichen Bekenntnis schriften der evgl. Lutherische Kirche in den alten drei Hauptsymbolen, den Apostalischen, Nicänischen und Athanasischen, in der ungeänderten Augburgischen Confession, in der Apologie, in dem Schmalkaldischen Artikeln, in dem kleinen und grossen Katechismus Luthers, in der Concordienformula und in den Sächßichen Visitations artikles bekannt und gelehrt wird, rein und lauter, so wohl öffentlich als auch privaten zu verkünden, die heiligen Sacramente nach Christi Einsetzung zu administerien, die Angefachten, Kranken, und Sterbenden zu besuchen und ihnen Untericht und Trost am Gottes Wort und Reichung des heiligen Sacramente je nach Umständen zu hilfe zu komen, die Jugend der Gemeinde zu erstenmaligen Genus des heiligen Abendmahls vorzuberreiten, die von Gott gebotene Kirchenzucht nach Gottes Wort unter uns zu hand haben, auf Befolgung gute Ordnungen und kirchlichen Gebrauche zu fungiren, der Gemeinde durch sein Vorbild voranleuchten, und überhaupt durch Gottes Gnade innerhalb der Grenzen seines Berufes alles zu thun, das zum Gedeihen der Gemeinde und zur heiligen Einigkeit in derselben dienen kann.

Hingegen verpflichten wir uns unseren erwählten
Seelsorger dem was zum nöthigen Lebenserhalt gehört, durch Gehalt, Stollgebühren und freiwillige Opfer nach besten Kräften zu versorgen, vor allen aber Ihn als einen Diener Jesu Christi anzusehen und ihm die Liebe, den Gehorsam und die Ehre zu erweisen, welche wir ihm als solchen schuldig sind.
