Picture of Andreas Mattijetz

This picture of Andreas Mattijetz was taken in Los Angeles, CA. The picture was taken sometime between 1896 and 1923.

Andreas Mattijetz was a passenger on the voyage of the Reform in 1853 at the age of 6, along with his parents Mathes Matthiez and Dorothea Rehle. His sisters Hanna (age 4) and Maria (age 2) were also on the voyage, and his sister Agnes was born at sea Oct. 9, 1853 during the voyage. Andreas' siblings born in Texas were Johann (born 1856), Carl August (born 1858), Theresa (born 1860) and Ernst Adolph (born 1863).

If anyone has any pictures of the other members of the family listed here, please let me know or send me a copy.

Andreas Matthijetz

Where did The Reform land in 1853?

Do you know how Matthijetz became Mattiza?

Matthijetz

The Reform ran aground off Cuba on Oct. 25, 1853. All passengers survived and eventually arrived in Galveston about mid November, 1853.

Matthijetz and Mattiza are two distinct family names. Matthijetz did not evolve to Mattiza.
