B. 069. The Broken Heart

(From: Leipe)
Translated by Ed Bernthal

Winter, summer, willow tree,
Sat a girl in the willow tree,
Sat and watched for her sweetheart
Come out of the tavern.

Out of the tavern came the sweetheart,
Rejoicing ever so happily,
Talked to another one there,
But the girl had heard everything.

Oh, you my first love,
Don’t do this to me!
This makes me very sad,
I won’t live long anymore.

I will pass my time in wandering
Among the hills without frost,
In the beautiful men’s courtyard,
In the new bedroom.
