Luther's "Christian Guide for Each Day"

Sunday 14 April 2013 at 06:00 am.

14 April

Pray without let up. 1 Thessalonians 5:17.

Wherever there is a Christian, there actually is the Holy Spirit, Who does nothing other than pray constantly; for even though he (the Christian) does not constantly move his mouth or say words, nevertheless the heart beats (just like the pulse and heart in a body) without letting up with longing sighs like this: Alas, dear Father, that yet Your Name would be hallowed, Your Kingdom come, Your will be done by us and everyone else, etc. And if thereupon stabbings or persecution and misery would press down harder, then such longing sighs and petitions come forth even more strongly, also verbally, so that one can find no Christian who does not pray, no more so than finding a living person with a pulse that does not constantly beat and pulsate, even though that person is sleeping or doing something else of which he is not aware.

It's been a difficult afternoon for me, but God has answered my unspoken prayer to enable me to translate one more - - Pastor Pohland preached a 'dynamite of God' sermon to me this morning ...

In Christ,

Elmer H.
