Luther's "Christian Guide for Each Day"

Wednesday 08 May 2013 at 11:26 pm.

8 May

It is not good that one take the children's bread and throw it the dogs.  She said: Yes, Lord, but even the puppies eat from the crumbs that fall from the master's table. Matthew 15:26-27.

It brings a disgrace upon all of us that we cannot tolerate God's judgment nor say yes to it when He holds us accountable and judges us. And if the condemned were able to do it, they would be saved in the blink of an eye. We of course say with our mouths that we are sinners, but when God says it to the heart, we can't stand it and would rather be regarded as pious and be freed from the judgment. However it has to be, if God is to be true to His Word, that you are a sinner; then you may use the right of every sinner, which God has given him, namely the forgiveness of sins. Thus you not only eat bread crumbs under the table like the puppies, instead you are also a child and have God as your own as you wish.

Thank you Lord for enabling me to sloppily do another one,

In Christ,

E M H
